Lichenan / Isolichenan
|
Lichenan (lichenin) is a linear polysaccharide isolated from lichen (ex Cetrariella islandica, Evernia prunastri). It is a homologous (1-3) and (1-4) -D glucan. Lichenan structure is similar to that of barley and oat -D glucan; but the proportion of 1-4 to 1-3 linkages is higher (approximately 2:1).
Isolichenan (isolichenin), a cold-water-soluble linear (1-3) and (1-4)-α-glucan, with different linkage groups among diverse taxa of lichens. Biomass sources:
Recent data show that lichenan exhibits potential anticancer and antiviral properties. Lichenan was also found to be a serious candidate for plant health product use.
